In a student residence in New England during the 1920s, HELEN wakes up dazed after a night of excess with opium and alcohol. Her roommate, ELIZABETH, arrives, visibly anxious, reminding her that they had recklessly read an occult grimoire the night before. ELIZABETH insists on finding the book and returning it to its owner, the eerie headmistress of the residence, but HELEN barely remembers what happened.

With a playful tone, ELIZABETH hints that they shared more than just forbidden readings that night, leaving HELEN embarrassed and confused. As she searches for the book, she reassures her with a kiss. Finally, she finds it under the wardrobe: the Necronomicon. As she holds it, the atmosphere shifts. «Why did you lie to me?» ELIZABETH asks, and in that instant, madness is unleashed.
